The TPE Precision Airbox Kit is engineered to deliver consistent, repeatable gains on the R53 platform. With an oversized 85 mm airbox, a purpose-built tapered intake hose, and a thermally stable enclosure, this system improves airflow, sharpens throttle response, and enhances the signature supercharger sound, all without compromising intake temperatures.

Airbox Design

The airbox has been completely redesigned to optimize airflow and maintain stable intake temperatures. By using advanced plastics instead of metal, the enclosure avoids unwanted heat absorption, ensuring the filter is isolated from engine bay temperatures.

The system draws cold air from two key low-temperature sources, the factory lower intake duct and the rear-panel opening integrated into the enclosure, while the enlarged internal volume further improves airflow efficiency. This combined design ensures cooler, denser air consistently reaches the supercharger.

High-Flow Intake Hose

The intake hose is purpose-built to match the airbox and provide a smooth, uninterrupted airflow path.

• 85 mm at the airbox, tapering to 61 mm at the throttle body
• OEM-style step for proper sealing and reduced turbulence
• Gradual taper that improves airflow speed and throttle response
• Multi-layer silicone construction that will not collapse, unlike many aftermarket hoses

Together, the airbox and hose form a highly efficient, turbulence-free connection from filter to throttle body.

Proven Performance Gains

Across all tested conditions, the TPE Precision intake outperformed the OEM setup. Results remained stable even during heat-soaked pulls, delivering sharper throttle response, smoother mid-range power, and a raw, unmuffled supercharger tone up to 7000 RPM.

Back-to-back dyno testing demonstrated clear improvements:

• Gains throughout the entire RPM range

All runs were completed on the same day, using the same tune, fuel, and hardware.

Why Cold Air Matters on the R53

The R53 platform is prone to high intake temperatures due to the top-mount intercooler and compact engine bay. Many open-cone intakes or metal “heat shields” worsen this issue by exposing the filter to hot air or retaining heat.

Enhanced Intake Sound

Despite being fully sealed, the system delivers an aggressively amplified M45 supercharger whine,
arguably one of the loudest intake sounds available for the R53, while still maintaining true cold-air performance.
