TPE Intake Manifold MINI R53 | R52 | Cooper S | JCW

The OEM intake manifold on the R53 is a well-known restriction within the intake system. Even with performance upgrades such as ported cylinder heads or aftermarket camshafts, airflow remains limited by the factory design. Restricted flow in this area reduces efficiency and directly limits power output, making manifold improvement essential for unlocking the engine’s full performance potential.

Engineering & Development

The primary goal when developing the TPE Precision Intake Manifold was to maintain equal pressure distribution across all four runners while retaining the external dimensions of the OEM unit.
To achieve this, the internal geometry was completely redesigned using advanced CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to optimize airflow direction, velocity, and distribution. Multiple CFD iterations and several prototype revisions were validated through real-world testing and dyno sessions, ensuring both precision and repeatability.

This results in an intake manifold that flows significantly more efficiently than the OEM unit while maintaining perfect compatibility with the R53 engine bay.

Plug-and-Play Fitment

A true bolt-on upgrade requiring no modifications.
Developed using 3D scanning, CAD modeling, and 3D printing to ensure precise dimensions, reliable sealing surfaces, and consistent performance across all units.

Proven Performance Gains

Dyno testing showed improvements throughout the entire RPM range, with especially strong results in the mid-range.

• +40 Nm and +15 WHP at 3,000 RPM

• +10 Nm and +12 WHP at redline

These gains were recorded on a back-to-back comparison between a non-ported TPE Precision intake manifold and the OEM non-ported unit.

Enhanced Thermal Efficiency

Testing demonstrated lower intake air temperatures and quicker thermal recovery.
This contributes to more consistent performance under load, especially during prolonged acceleration or repeated pulls.

Ported vs. Non-Ported Versions

Ported Version:
The manifold’s outlet is matched to the cylinder head outline based on the original metal gasket.

Non-Ported Version:
Matches the exact cylinder head outline of the OEM Cooper S intake manifold.
